i greatly enjoyed his movies (most of them), great plot, hilarious (crude) humour, grim but realistic perspective.
To those who have seen his works, do you any other movies similar to his style?
I have yet to watch Kids Return, Dolls, Sonatine, and A Scene at the Sea (torrent pls!). I reckon his movies are equally great and highly recommend them.

Takeshi Kitano is one of my favourite directors. My favourite movies of his are probably Kikujiro and Fireworks.
I have always seen Kikujiro as one of the most feel-good movies around. I show it to everybody and everybody always loves it.
Saw his take on Zatōichi the other day, good movie. Of course you have to look past the (on purpose) fake looking blood, but it is a very entertaining movie on the whole. Nice musical effects as well.

Kids Return is excellent, and probably my favorite Kitano film. Just for kicks, I'd like to see him do more movies without him in a starring role.

Kids Return was, agreeably, a good film. I have yet to see it with dialogue I understand though, since the version I saw was subtitled. In French.
However, my favourite Kitano movie has to be Hana-Bi (the Fireworks that 2 mentions). So far, anyways. Have yet to see Dolls and Kikujiro... I don't expect much from 'Getting Any?' after just seeing the trailer.

When he's not directing, he's typically type-cast. As a freakin' badass. Even in crappy movies like Johnny Mnemonic, he's the best character. Battle Royal, still a badass. Even when he's a gay samurai in Taboo (Gohatto) he still kicks ass. Actually, he doesn't so much kick it in that one, but you can always pretend the other guy is a chick.

He also paints amazingly beautiful pictures.

He's not in starring roles in Dolls and A Scene at the Sea (Ano natsu Ichiban Shizukana Umi "the most silent sea in the summer ").
All of his movies are interesting but he's getting a typical super hero in his recent works. Kids Return was great.

Kikujiro is interesting. It's very funny, especially because Kitaro plays a NORMAL, not gangster-like at all goofy character in that one. Did I say it's funny? It's very, VERY, funny.

Well I loved Zatoichi.
I don't so much admire his acting ability, as I do his ability to make a fantastic film. I wish to see 'Hanabi", and more of his films, but so far I'm only a newb to Takeshi.

Kikujiro and Brother represent the top of Kitano's game. Everything else is either too violent, too artsy, or too dancy.
