/tech/ - 4chan flooded with ads?

I log on this morning and every page on 4chan is filled with hyperlinked words that pop up careerbuilder bullshit, and there are pop-ups that Adblock isn't doing shit against either. No one's talking about it, which makes me worried that something's wrong on my end. What the fuck's going on, guys?

Okay, it seems that I was infected with the Tubesaver/streamjs virus which I seem to have gotten rid of by uninstalling the program. But I'm still worried because I haven't been to any unusual websites lately and the only programs I installed recently were CDisplay and GonVisor, CBR-reading programs, and neither of them are known to contain malware. Any idea how this happened to me?

Did you install CDisplay and GonVisor from a trusted site or the developer's site?

You might have gotten it bundled with one of them.

In the future, use programs like Sandboxies[1] so that shit like this doesn't happen. As the name implies, it sandboxes programs you run inside it so that they can't touch your filesystem or registry (by default, they have read-access, but not write-access; and changes programs make will be transparently redirected inside the sandbox).

And it also has convenience features that allow you to easily merge-back your changes from the sandbox to the live filesystem. For example if you run a bit-torrent client inside the sandbox, and Sandboxie detects it tried to make modifications to, let's say your "Downloads" folder in your user-profile directory, it will give you a nice little prompt to let you ignore or merge the changes to the live filesystem.
