Mobile signal booster, and internet

Hi, im a desperate media student who needs a better internet connection, but the only thing that the internet companies can sell to me is 0.50 kbit.

I have heard that it is possible to boost the nearby mobile signal and in some kind of way connect this to a router and use it as a normal internet router.

Is this possible? And if it is, what do i need, and how do i set it up?

contact comcast or verizion or att about getting a phone that has a mobile hotspot built in.  I know Iphone Does
