SlackWare is pretty barebone and unmodified, so it's a good start, but CentOS or Scientific Linux are very much like RHEL, so that might be better for understanding what usual corporate Linux workstations are like nowadays.

Scientific is pretyt much RHEL. CentOS is alot like RHEL and they use that at my webhosting job. If your trying to experiment Arch Linux.
