Capturing IR codes on a computer

Name: TheTVGuy 2012-12-29 18:17

Hey guys, need some help.  I'm trying to capture the IR codes that a remote sends to a TV, BluRay, receiver and stuff like that.  I doubt my laptop's webcam would be an acceptable way of capturing them, so I'll need a USB IR receiver.  Does anyone know of a program that I can get that would actually decipher the flashes and turn them into a code?  I'm using Control4 Composer, and I don't always have codes to program, so if I could just use their remote to capture a code at a customers house, it would be awesome.

If anyone could help me, I literally have pretty much no idea on how to make this happen aside from keep searching google until I find something.  I'm still not finding anything that I can really grasp.

Try http://winlirc.sourceforge.net/ or http://www.mediatexx.com/

And yes, you will need a USB IR receiver.

That looks promising, thank you!  Will this allow me to capture the code from a remote of my choosing and view the code it sends in prontoedit hex format?  That's the format the program I use for work uses.
