BIOS problem

Name: Anonymous 2011-12-05 10:53

Hey /tech/.
I've got a real problem, and couldn't solve it by searching or trying to fix it by myself (I've read a whole tutorial, didn't help me at all). So here I am:
I've recently bought a book about computer security, and with it came a CD ROM (which contained a Linux Kernel environment, with every useful program preinstalled - CodeBlocks, etc.)
I've tried to boot from the CD when I start my Asus n-20 laptop: didn't work.
Then I tried to modify the BIOS settings for it to boot automatically from the CD ROM; didn't work either. The settings weren't the same as on the tutorials I read, and I didn't want to fuck up my hardware or anything.

Could you guys help me? I think I've given sufficient details on my problem and searched enough. If you have any questions about my computer, ask me.

Btw, I'm on Ubuntu 11.10.

tl;dr : Problem on an asus n20 laptop, can't set the bios to boot from a cd rom

Youj can get to bios though?

Yes, I can. But I don't know the exact command to make it boot from the CD, and when I try another option, I get this error while the CD ROM starts:
[6.136000] EXT-3-fs: sda: couldn't mount because of unsupported optional features (240).
Could it come from my RAM?

Google 2 things:
  1. How to change BIOS for your machine
  2. The error message u posted above

Ext-3 is linux file system...sda is your primary hard-drive...
Try rebooting with the live_cd in the optical drive without any special commands and see if it loads?
