Verizon USB card

Got the following from a friend.  Anybody dealt with this before?

We have a USB Verizon broadband plugged into a Cradlepoint router to provide wi-fi for an iPad. Numerous times during the middle of the night (typically 12:30 A.M.) we find large amounts of Verizon usage (480 MB one morning) and it caused us to go WAY over the Verizon allowance last month ($250). Been to the Apple store to check iPad (it is turned off when this happens), called Verizon (who blames the router), called Cradlepoint (who blames Verizon). We changed passwords (didn't help), have to enter password to access internet (didn't help), and I have my own Verizon broadband that I use in my iMac. Cindy's laptop wireless doesn't even work (have to physically plug the broadband in), so it's not that, either. Lastly, we live in a very rural area, so someone "stealing" usage is not likely. Yesterday we began an experiment whereby we swapped broadband devices to see what that does to the usage. Any ideas you might share on this vexing problem would be appreciated, as Verizon and Cradlepoint were no help.

Don't change these.
