I am attempting to get a minimal Slackware 12.2 install working on a 1 GB Compact Flash card. I have manually picked a set of packages that I believe are appropriate for our use. The install completed successfully. However, when I try to boot the system, the boot-loader (LILO) runs fine, but then gets a kernel panic because it can't find the root file system:
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(8,11)
The list of available partitions does not include the device the card is mounted as (/dev/sdb)
I've tried quite a few solutions now, including adding the modules to support the hardware (I believe), and creating an initrd to load the appropriate drivers, but nothing works. During an attempt to recompile the kernel to include the drivers, the CF card ran out of space.
I'm not quite sure what to do at this point. What is the next step I should take, and is there any more information you need from my install?
