tl;dr review my components and let me know if they look good for a Hackintosh
Greetings /g/.
Recently sold my MacBook and I can't stand Windows. Decided to build a cheapish Hackintosh.
MB: Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3. I've used Gigabyte boards countless times in PC builds and the Intel P55 northbridge has extensive support in the community.
CPU: Intel Core i3-550 3.2GHz. The i5-650 3.2GHz is a $60 price premium that seems essentially pointless. The i7 line puts me out of any potential price range and any kind of speed bumps feel silly for the cost.
GPU: HIS H575FN1GD Radeon HD 5750. This is a crucial point for an OOB Hackintosh, it seems. So I'm sticking to Radeons that Apple offers on their own systems, be it iMac or Mac Pros. The only higher card they offer is the 5770 and for the price premium again, it doesn't look like it'll do me much good.
RAM: 4GB DDR3 1600 of a brand I've heard of before. Prices on RAM seem to be all over the map so that'll be an order day decision.
Case: as close to all-black I can get for as cheap as possible. I honestly don't care for neat little case features because I'm installing it once and never again shall I touch the interior.
PSU: Currently a CoolerMaster 500W. Chosen for the brand and the price point it hit. I'm not entirely sure if this is too much power or not.
The above clocks in at just a cunt hair under $500. I'm reusing an SSD I had in a MacBook I recently sold so I'm covered there. I'll also be taking two USB-based SATA drives and sticking them internal.
Thanks for any response, not sure how many Hackintosh users are running around.
