i7 or Quad Core?

Which is better?

i7s cost too much, and if you have to ask then you don't need the i7, at all.

I have a phenom 2 3.0ghz quad core and I can be running a rainbow table and not even break a sweat.  Even when I stress test and all four cores are pegged to 100% I can still use my computer and wouldn't be able to tell you my cpu usage is that high
