Need help with Ubuntu

So I got a new computer and downloaded 10.04 and put it on a CD. Problem is, my ATI Radeon HD 5770 doesn't seem to like the drivers, because after it shows Ubuntu and 5 dots, it goes blank and my monitor doesn't get an input. So, being somewhat technologically inferior, how do I install drivers on something I can't use?

Anyone? I do feel stupid for resorting to 4chan for help, but I need Ubuntu running. 7 sucks, hasn't been a few days and I've already froze multiple times and been bluescreened
