OS problems

Okay /tech/ I have a problem. I ordered a notebook from HP two years ago and it was working perfectly until a week ago. When I started up my computer it went to a black screen error message. Apparently there is a boot problem and I need the startup repair function in the installation cds  to fix it. The problem is that HP stopped including installation cds with their computers for whatever reason. So now I'm fucked as they won't send it to me. What Do? I have a windows 7 installation disk lying around but I have Vista on my notebook. Will a windows 7 startup repair function work with vista? Should I just opt for system recovery and lose everything in hope it fixes the problem? Find someone with a Vista Cd?

Why not just download W7?

I don't understand.  My computer is 3 weeks old (christmas present), it came installed with Windows 7.  Why would I download a copy of it if I already have it installed?

You can dl a copy of vista via torrents. Burn the iso to a dvd and use it to repair. There's nothing wrong with dling the iso, I do it all the time when msdn gets clogged up.

Or just upgrade to win7.
