A bit dubious...

Okay... So my laptop is fucked. My dumbass buddy hit it while it was in my backpack and now it won't go past BIOS, which makes me think it may be the graphics card. But this is irrelevant because I don't have the technical know-how to fix it myself, necessitating the enlistment of outside help. Thing is, my computer has some pretty comprising files that could land me in a heap of trouble if any authorities ever found out. So my question is this: what can I do to avoid getting fucked? If I hand my computer over to say bestbuy would they go poking around in my files? What about if I send it back to the manufacturer? Is there any way to wipe the hard drive repairably without access to windows?

First, what brand of laptop do you have and what is in it?
Did it come with did it come with recovery discs or is it built into the hard drive? Removing files without damaging the hard drive at this point will be tricky if you do not have a disc that can do it. This is assuming that it will read disks right now.
My computer forensics class has found a program that can wipe everything on the hard drive including all information in all partitions. This would be a last measure if nothing else works.
