memtest86 crashes

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-28 9:44

I've been having odd, inconsistent BSODs lately. I can use my machine all day browsing the internets, or watching movies; but when I start doing intensive stuff like playing a game, or have 50 browser tabs open, it crashes, with a different BSOD every time.

My thought is I may have had some of my RAM go bad on me. The problem is, when I try to run memtest86, it starts up, then before finishing the self test and address test, my computer restarts. What's up with that?

sounds like a hardware issue and not a software issue.

Try checking your heat sinks for dust. I had the same sort of problem once before, I had thought it was the Hard Drive dying. After a while of failed attempts to fix various things like getting a new Hard drive (didn't fix anything but at least I had a much bigger drive), running memtest, reinstalling windows, trying linux I just happened to notice one day that my processor heat sink was clogged. Cleaned it out and the computer ran perfect.

Now that you mention it, the problems did show up out overnight when the local temps went from mid 60's to mid 80's.

Don't change these.
