Hi, due to a recent feeling of nostalgia I wanted to play some of my older games on my machine, but I get this particular error.
When I start the game I get sound and all but the screen stays black. When I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del I see the menu of the game just fine for a split second before it minimizes.
I already tried compatibility mode and have the latest drivers for my graphics card. Some other old games run just fine, the ones I get this problem with are Combat Flight Simulator 1+2, Mech Commander 2 and American Conquest. Oddly enough those games work fine on other machines running XP, but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Some of my system specs:
Windows XP SP3
Intel Core 2 Duo 3ghz
Asus P5N32-E
Nvidia Geforce 8600 GTS
Gargl... thought this message meant "your post was not accepted"... Sorry... now trying to find out how to delete the dupes ... ;-)

Uhm, i had similar issues while trying to play Final Fantasy VII PC on XP/Vista.
The developers hardly ever offer support on older games, but if you google it, you can probably find community patches and fixes that allow the games to run on newer hardware/OS's.

What games are you trying to run, specifically?

Disregard that, I suck cocks.
A lot of newer graphics cards are unsupported by old games, unfortunately :( There's not a lot you can do about it, unless the developer, or a 3rd party community has developed some kind of a patch for it.
