Portable Hard Drive

I posted about an hour or so ago in /g/ about where to get an external hard drive. They didn't help, so I came here.

Well, I found one:

$89.99 for 160GB, which ain't bad at all. Problem is, I can't format it to FAT or FAT32.

What would be the best file system to format the drive when I get it?

I'm using a Windows XP/Vista so anything that works with those two operating systems.

I hat ext2 drivers on win xp like two years ago and they sucked hard. Maybe they got much better..

Not OP but can anyone tell me what the average lifetime of an external hdd is providing it's not that often used (only once per week~2 months or so)? I have a few that are coming onto 4 years old, have never had any problems with them but I'm starting to worry about their age.

Uh, any store that sells electronics or office supplies will have external hard disks. I see a couple of places selling 500-gigabyte WD MyBooks for $99, I shit you not. Look around!

wat? That's a shitty price. I got a 250GB external for that much like 2 years ago.
