Anyone know a cheap and crude way to get a fix on a mobile phone's location within the UK? Phone was stolen, and I know it's being used, but the son of a bitch has divert on or has blocked my number. Network refuse to trace due to legal reasons.

Have you tried asking the police? There's a thread right now on /g/ where they chased a guy down by location.

1) Get friends who work in the industry and who are prepared to lose their jibs and go to jail to tell you.
2) Give up. The phone has gone. You'll never get it back. How do you know it's in use? How do you know the thief hasnt just changed the SIM (thus getting a new phone number?)
3) Tell the police/telco what the IMEI number is. It's illegal (in the UK) to change it, and changing it requires more technical knowledge than simply unlocking. So they can get the phone switched off.
4) If they're still using your number get as many people to call them as often as possible.
