Need help with new gaming rig

Name: Anonimity_withheld 2008-08-22 18:05

Guys I'm desperately in need of help and I hope you can find a solution to this crap since technicians here arent worth shit.

Ok so I built a nice gaming rig, put all the parts together, installed windows XP and decided to start installing the drivers. But before the installation goes up more than 1% the computer reboots and then I'm forced to format my pc for the nth time because some system32 file got corrupted.
I asked a technician around the neighbourhood and he said I should install service pack 3 before the drivers, so I did. But just like with the drivers before it reaches 1% it automatically reboots! WTF seriously, I'm starting to think the problem is related to voltage or energy consumption because once it starts to work just a bit more it reboots. It also freezes when its idling for too long, making hard reset the only solution.

Here are the specs:

Motherboard: Intel DX48BT2
Processor: Intel Core 2 Do 3.16Ghz (E8500)
Video Card: ATI Radeon 4870
RAM: 2 gigs DDR3
Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 500gb (firmware:3.AAK)
OS: Windows XP Pro SP2

I tried to look this up on google and found alot of people with the same problem by searching DX48BT2 reboots and it seems like its very common, but unfortunately all their questions ended unanswered.

Also before windows loads it says "hard drive not detected" (WTF?) but it starts anyway.

Any help is really appreciated, thanks a bunch.

sounds like your PSU may be inadiqute(sp?)? What brand of power supply did you use? What is the wattage and amperage on the 12v rails?

Name: Anonimity_withheld 2008-08-23 14:34

#2: Its already plugged in the first sata slot or if you mean port 1, it's plugged in port 0. Dunno if that matters as well?

#3: I use a Vortec ET-PSVO 700 power supply

If you aren't sure about the spelling of a word, fucking look it up. You don't even have to get up to find a dictionary; just type it in Google and see what it suggests.

Why did you spend money on a 700-Watt PSU when your system will be using 200 at the most?

would changing to a 200-Watt PSU fix this problem or was that just a witty remark?

Your power supply might just be broken, but a power supply that's too powerful by itself wouldn't cause problems, no.

Try a different HD also what are you installing OS from? some downloaded / borrowed shitty quality copy or an original disc in good condition?

I don't think it's the hard drive... I believe it's more related to the power supply. Have a look at these links and tell me what you think:

The OS is Windows XP Pro custom slipstreamed with SP2. I'm using a disc that hasn't given me problems with other PCs. I've checked Intel's website and they "recommend" WinXP SP2 otherwise some "problems" might appear.

OK try removing the processor fan and the processor, blow on the base and replace it back and just use a dab of sexual lube in place of thermal compound will do the trick
