Drive Letter Problems

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-19 23:31

Long story short: I'm running Vista. I keep most of my music on an external drive. It's set up so that my music player knows that's where it's kept. Therefore, that drive always has to be in the same "place," which is usually 'F:'.  Recently I got a USB thumb drive, and now it always shows up as 'F:' regardless of which order the devices are recognized, bumping my external drive to another letter and fucking up my music.

Anyway to fix this? Is there some way to "reserve" 'F:' for the external drive the way the thumb drive seems to be doing?

Probably, but if you have to ask here you're too full of failure to fix it

i find that making sure only one external storage device, ie my external, should be plugged in before powering both on. after the computer has finished booting, check to see if it has the correct drive letter.

also there IS a way to reserve it, though i found it on accident and have since forgotten.
