So the ASUS Eee pc looks pretty cool. there are other ones out there too. school starts up soon im thinking of getting one. Anyone have one or have any experience with these tiny computers? Anyone else done some research on 'em?

I own an eee701. If you have thick fingers, you'll have some trouble typing if you're trained in the traditional typing technique. My fingers are not thick and so, this less of a problem to me. Also, you have to track your data usage because your 4gig SSD will fill up pretty quickly. I use an 8 gig SDHC card as my personal data store store.

im thinking of getting the HP 2133 Mini-Note because it's similar in size and has a 120GB hard drive. I'm a bit worried about these sub/netbooks because they use new exotic processors like the Atom and VIA C7-M. Really, how powerful are these and am i looking at any compatibility problems with software?

I also own a 701 eeePC. After learning how to overclock it, and configure it, it really is my favorite portable I have.
Only problem with the 701 is its battery life. It uses a celeron cpu, so it eats up energy fast.
I wish I had 901 with an atom cpu; they are supposed to have up to 7 hours of battery.
anyone played games on these netbooks? Im sure its got enough power to run emulators and older games like starcraft and stuff, but it seems to have like a wide screen resolution or something else non-standard. I'd get one but if its tiny window turns out to be too small for fucking Diablo 2 then forget it.

there's an eee pc forum and wiki with lists of games tested under Windows, Wine, and linux.
google will return results.

actually the 901's have a worse battery life, up to 4 hours max, probably from the larger screen, I own a 701 and get around 5 hours without wifi, theres some 3rd party larger batteries available which can last a bit longer

Acer have made some that are equivalent to the Asus. Bit bigger, but in general are practically the same specifications.

I have an Asus EEE 4G.
There is a work around for games which require a minimum of 800x600 where you can scale a 800x600 res down to 800x480 to fit the screen. Also I can run NWN at full settings, I haven't tried too many games since I have yet to get a removable SSD so i'm limited to 4gb, but from what I hear alot of games work quite well even source games. Probably want to OC it and get 2gb ram though (or at very least clock it up from it's underclocked 630mhz (on the 701 at least)).
On the other hand.. most of the problems i've listed I think are solved in the 901 and above.
I'm actually on one at the moment. Eee PC 900a, on sale at Best Buy for $155 plus tax. 4 GB SSD, 9" screen, VGA out, 1GB RAM, 3x USB, 1.6GHz Atom Processor. I have mine dual booting CrunchBang and XP. Posting from Links in #! right now.

Posting from an eee PC 1000ha right now. Fantastic machine, running Windows 7 RC1 on it. Pretty good for most everything other than heavy gui design and anything 3d. The screen tends to be a bit small for any type of graphic design but it works well enough.

Posting from OpenSolaris in my Acer Aspire One.
Then only real problem is that it heats ups quickly.
Yea fuck ads.
Wait until new netbook mobo's.
Intel has new boards that integrate most crap into 2 chips, goign to bring down power usage and up speed.
Look it up sorry to lazy to post link, well find it.

I've gone tablets, going with an old Inspiron 300m with an upgraded PATA/CF SSD homebuild, new battery and maxed RAM for 100$.
