Vista Directory File Permissions

Name: Anonymous 2008-05-17 2:20

I posted for help in the /g/ image board, but the thread was deleted b4 i could read the results, and then I found the text boards and decided this is probably the better place.  The Long story short: as ADMINISTRATOR in windows vista I'm told I don't have permission to delete a file. I'm the #@^*&!% administrator.  Where the H--- do u get more permissions than admin???

computer says no

Learn to NTFS permissions.

Take ownership of the files, Administrator has the rights to do that. Once you are owner you can can give yourself whatever rights to the file you want.

No ideas?  Am I the only one to experience this problem?

Then you've either tinkered with the security policies or some shit or you've done something wrong. My guess is that it's the latter.

user accounts unselect the administrator crap

I'm having the same problem, I'm trying to recover data off of a NTFS HD with XP on it, I am told if you have the same domain name and User name it will unlock. if not try running windows explorer as the domain of the PC the hard drive is out of and administrator.

but yes, vista sucks.

This is bullshit. Learn how SIDs work.

Again, take ownership of the file(s) and then give yourself whatever permissions you want.

Your problem seems to be Vista.  Delete it.

He will have to deal with ownerships/permissions on Linux as well. If he can't handle them on Wintendo, what makes you think he will be able to on Linux?

Ubanto is more intuitive than Wintoy.

Name: Anonymous 2008-06-02 10:39

Yeah, by the same means though, ie hiding the underlying complexity from the user. Which means they don't understand shit about the system until they run into trouble like OP did and don't know what the fuck is going on. Same thing could have happened to him on Ubanto.

qft, it's the only problem

root can do anything on a linux box
administrator can't do everything on a Vista box

you're no longer the owner of the computer if you're running vista
