I am thinking of buying a new mobile phone but I have a problem with the SIM card in my existing phone. The problem is that I don't have a PIN for it. I have tried to change some account setting with my network and I was asked to enter a four digit number that I didn't have, after pressing the * key twice I was put through to some Indian tech support person who said they could give me a new PIN if I gave them my details so I gave them my details and then they said the details I gave them didn't match with the details on their system so they couldn't proceed with changing the account settings.
I was given this phone back in 2001 or 2002 as a gift and I knew next to nothing about mobile phones, SIM cards or anything like that, I have never needed a PIN before recently and the SIM card is not registered to anyone I know, it wasn't registered to me or the person that gave me the phone, as far as I know it is a used phone registered to a complete stranger, I tried using the default PINs like 1111, 0000, 1234, etc. and none of them work. The SIM Card is an Orange PAYG.
The actual account setting I was trying to change was Orange Safeguard but I don't care about that as I have got another phone I can use for that, my concern is buying a new phone and trying to install the SIM card into the phone without having a PIN for it, I don't know what phone Anonymous uses or reccomends but I was thinking of buying an unlocked Sony Ericsson K800i or K810i and installing the SIM card in that but I am wondering whether it will ask me for a PIN if I do that, I mean when I install the SIM card and turn on the phone for the first time and being asked for a PIN and if this is the case can it be bypassed? Also, if I remove the SIM card from my existing phone which is a Nokia 6210 can I put it back into that phone without being asked for a PIN?
