Hai guys;
I'm going to be starting on a software development degree in the fall, and I need help choosing a good laptop for under $1400.
List of minimum config specs:
-Wired and wireless ethernet
-at least 2gb ram
-5400 rpm, 160gb hard drive
-Windows (preferably XP)
Can /tech/ hook me up?

wait, what? Assuming $1400 USD that's an easy spec to buy. What's wrong with anything from newegg in the $750 - $1000 range? Leaving you with enough money to buy a smidgen of legal software, or a few accessories.

Get a Thinkpad if you want something decent. It's more costly but quality has its price.
If you want XP you'll probably have to pay extra for a downgrade.
Compaq Armada 1540DM was pretty much the last Laptop I had that you could work in Assembly Code off the C: on but it only have 20MB Ram. Use only if insane and broke and looking to build small out of date programs that interface with small out of date Hardware.
I suggest the small $400 2 Gig Ram laptops that run XP they are passing off under the sign "Back to School" to scare off all adults Who for some reason head straight for the $2700 laptop that is identical.
