Recovering Formatted Files?

Name: Anonymous 2008-03-31 15:41

After deciding the failings of Windows Vista way outwieghed the benefits, I decided to ditch it and re-install good ol' XP, however I wasn't paying attention to the screen and I inadvertenly formatted the drive... Now I need to get my fucking files, in specific; my game saves, some photos and movies, etc. I'm using the "RecoverMyFiles" software, from recovermyfiles.com; it claims to be able to completely recover any accidentially deleted or formated data.

I'm sure some of the patrons of /tech/ have had similar problems/experience, please help a fellow channer...tl;dr I need to know how successful software would be in recovering formatted data

Download the gparted live CD, or any other live CD that contains the ``testdisk'' tool. That may recover deleted partitions.

>>4 here again.

I hope you weren't dump enough to actually install anything on the space that used to be your old partitions. In that case most of your data is probably lost, of course.

I used some software to recover some files but they all don't have their original filenames; so, yeah i could search through like fucking 30,000 MP3 files to find my like 600 tracks but i imagine it'd be simpler just to redownload them all
