Help with new system

Name: Anonymous 2008-01-19 17:18

Hello, denizens of /g/.

I'm looking into a new computer, and I was wondering if you guys wouldn't mind giving me a little advice?  So far I have picked out these core components

Core 2 Duo E6759 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115029
Gigabyte P35 Chipset Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059
Raidmax 500W PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817152029
G. Skill 2GB DDR2 800 RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231098

Are there any over-sights on my part?  Is there anything of better value I have not found in my research?  On the matter of graphics, I am kind of in between:

8600 GT http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130085
Radeon HD 3850 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103049

Do you guys think that my previously mentioned components would bottle-neck the Radeon card significantly?  I looked into this "PCI-Express 2.0" business, and my motherboard lacks it, so I may just be better off saving my money.

If anyone knows of any deals going on, that could be very super, and any other help is greatly appreciated.

IMO Just wait on processor AND video cards.  In a few months Intel is releasing 45nm tech and the E8XXX series which are way faster, cooler, and cheaper than current CPUs. Nvidia is also releasing new 9XXX series cards in the next few months which will beat even the best current cards by atleast 30%.  Also PCI-E 2.0 isn't really going to be a bottleneck atm for midrange comps. Also  that powersupply you picked out... well sucks.  Why try to power a nice $600+ system on a $30 PSU. A bad psu can fry everything you just shelled out all that cash for.  I would recommend http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703005
(This PSU is alittle larger than average so make sure it can fit in your case.
Here is a cheaper one...

I would seriously consider getting a good PSU because it really is the heart of your PC and can cause major problems/damage if you go with a piece of crap. I have the 610w PCP one I recommended and I absolutely love it and recommend it %100. I don't mean to sound fanboi-ish but they even test their PSUs and pack the testing report in with the PSU they send. And a 5 year warrenty to boot!

Hope I gave you something to think about.
