OSX client to XP server over VPN

I've got a question that I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere else.  I set up a VPN so my Macbook can access files on my XP desktop.  The connection works fine and both computers can see each other.  I have the folders I want accessed shared and all that stuff.  Since I am a noob at OSX, I just need to know; how exactly do I access the files on my desktop; ie where do I go and what do I type in?

you shouldnt need to set up a VPN to access xp from osx...

just enable windows file sharing and \\server etc
