magnets and speakers

Will a strong magnet affect the output of the average speaker? Googling 'speaker' and 'magnet' turns up things the speaker magnet might screw up, but not the other way around.

If you put the magnet inside the cone (of the average voice coil in an average paper or poly cone driver) it would affect the output and probably ruin the cone.  you should try it.  if you fuck up, you can get new average speakers and, at least continue down the road of mediocrity having learned something.

*IN* the cone I can probably avoid. Beside the cone is what I was worried about. I'm thinking about mounting an LCD television to an in-wall entertainment center with an articulating arm. I was hoping I could put little magnetic tabs on the outside edges to keep it snugged up to the wall. It was magnets or velcro, the latter of which I'd rather not do.

a 42" lcd would extend past either side of the in-wall cubby by an inch or two. I want to be able to pop it open to get to the treasures within when ever I want to without seeing any of the hardware supporting it when it's closed up.

I'll ask again before resuming my mediocrity: will a rare earth magnet within an inch or so of a speaker introduce any distortion or humming or anything?
