I have a TracFone with service provided by AT&T. I can send texts to my cell (Moto V170) by emailing ##########@mobile.mycingular.com but when I try to attach a MIDI file or a tiny bmp, I can't extract the file from my text like I can with the free ringtone TracFone will send me.
How do I get the file "embedded" in my email so that my phone can extract it?

You need to get MIME- or Uudecode working on the phone.

I bet TracFone is sending you an email with a web link on it.
Try hosting your .mid file somewhere it can be directly accessed (Aka, not Rapidshare) Then, send yourself a text/email with a URL for that .mid You may then be able to download that file via your phone's web server.
I've been able to 'send' myself custom mp3 ringtones that work on my Nokia phone.
