media center won't let me burn video dvd

I'm trying to burn a video dvd of a recorded tv show on my htpc with windows XP media center edition 2005. I've loaded nero vision express 3 onto the pc, however when i put in the dvdr and go through the selection of the tv show i want to record, the only option it gives me is a data dvd. why won't it let me burn a video dvd? also in even doing that it won't let me select to compress the show either to fit it to the data disc. help please.
