Networking Setup

I've tried a few configurations of hardware and wiring and a few different setups of subnets and such, but I'm having trouble with my home network.

Most of the computers are connected to a (wireless) router which is connected to the DSL modem.

I have a laptop and an old computer.  The laptop connects wirelessly to that router but I would like to also access files on the old computer sometimes.  The old computer does not have a wireless card.

Available extra hardware are: more ethernet cable both straight and cross and a second wired router.


Most of the random settings and configurations I tried ended up with me being able to talk to either the internet OR the old computer but not both.

What kind of settings *should* work?
