livecd vs distro

I've toyed around with a few livecds and when I've looked into installing them as an OS, the docs always recommend installing the actual operating system rather than a LiveCD version of the OS.

WHY? LiveCDs, 99% of the time, just work yet Linux/BSD hasn't reached that point yet.

The live CD is the same distro as the installation version, except it is made especially for booting without installation.
