LaCie D2 vs. LaCie F.A. Porsche

So I've been wanting to get an external hard drive since I'll be getting rid of my tower and using a laptop to replace it for the sole reason of minimum noise.

Here's where the problem lies, I'll need space and lots of it, 500GB to start, but I don't want to spend a whole wad of cash.

I like the LaCie brand since I've yet to hear of them failing and was wondering about the difference between their D2 series ($200+) to their shiny Porsche designed ones ($120).

Reason I ask here is cause Google gives nothing but advertisement and places to buy them from...

Uhm... Hard Drives are being discussed not video cards and the BYO function was debated but found lacking as an option since it would triple the price
