Two ethernet ports?

Name: Anonymous 2007-03-19 1:42 ID:0qTlj7wx

My mobo has two LAN ports on the back of it.  What is the purpose of this?  Is there any way I could run a cable from one port to my 360, and share the internet through that?  It would be much more efficient than running two looong cables from my switch.

That's what the second port is for. You can run it out to your 360 and then do connection sharing if you run Windows (which you probably are since you own a 360 and thus are a Microsoftfag)

I have every console back to the Atari 2600 ("Sears Video Arcade" version) except a PS3.

Hmm, how do I enable sharing? >_>

Assuming XP: You can bridge the network by selecting both devices in the Network Connections window, right-clicking on one of the two that are selected, then clicking Bridge Connections.

Thank you... But for some reason, even with the bridged connections, my XBox doesn't want to connect. :<

You'll need to forward the ports to whatever IP address your Xbox 360 has. The ports are listed on:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911728

You will need to do this through your router, likely through a web-based configuration page. Try either:
http://192.168.0.1
http://192.168.1.1

If you haven't configured the router before, the login is usually a combination of:
user: admin pass: admin
user: admin pass: [blank]
user: [blank] pass: admin

It wasn't a router problem; I can connect if I take the line from my switch straight to the XBox.  It would just be much more convinient if I could take a line from Compy straight to XBox.

Basically, my network is:

Modem>Router
Router>Dad's Computer, my switch
Switch>PS2, Compy (Across the room), XBox 360 (Next to Compy)

I just want to get rid of one of the long lines across my room to the 360 by plugging it into my spare Ethernet port on my computer.  It's not working, however. x.x

Ahh, another thing.  I have all my latest drivers installed, and yet...  I see in Network Connections, a Marvell Yukon etc etc PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet connector, and the only other thing I see is a IEEE 1394 Net Adapter (Firewire.)

Where's the options for my second LAN? o_O;  I'm using a ASUS A8N-32 SLI Deluxe.

Needs moar promiscuous mode. Somthing like netsh bridge set adapter 1 enable. Otherwise it might not accept the traffic supposed to go to the XBOX.

You people are fucking idiots, he needs a crossover cable if he's connecting directly from the XBox to his computer.
