AGP Texture Acceleration is greyed out in dxdiag and its stopping me from playing some games and ive done everything i can to enable it, from installing chipset drivers to downgrading my graphics to reinstalling directx, i dont know what else to do. my chipset and graphics card are, intel 845G chipset and radeon 9200 PCI version, if anyone needs this information. please help me enable it, i havent been able to play GTA:SA for about 6 months.
i didnt buy the computer my parents did. and yeah they were too stupid to buy a good computer, the guy at the store told them it was a gaming PC.

>>3 >>2 was laughing at you because you have a PCI card, yet you want to enable an AGP feature. Sidenote: it's even funnier because both of these bus types are outdated for graphics cards.
Conclusion: LOL

i had AGP texture accerlation activated before, LOL. fucking idiot.
Sorry, what I meant to say was:
i can play half life 2 with all full setings and it's the most visually stunning interactive slide show I have ever witnessed.

PCI or PCI-X? Ah well, it doesn't matter. The fact is that a Geforce 5 series is faster than a 9200, and the current generation of gaming cards has moved on to the 7 and 8 series. Accept that, if you want to play any reasonably new game at a reasonable framerate, you'll be dropping the $$$ for a new vidcard and, maybe, a new mobo.
This time do research before buying "gaming" hardware. And don't buy your shit @BestBuy or some similar ripoff retail location.

You mean PCI-E. PCI-X is mostly only used for expansion RAID cards for server -oriented motherboards.

Also, some FX5200's were made with 64bit memory, making them EVEN SLOWER than a Radeon9200. Painful to watch really. I watched one struggle with games that ran smoother on my old TNT2 Riva.

I didnt buy it and I wouldnt have bought it, my parents did. I dont want to play any new games either just GTA:SA.

what the fuck is your point i keep telling you i could paly the game before just fine, now it wont work because AGP texture acceleration is out. my computer is fine for the games i want to play you fucking idiot.
No, your computer is not fine for games. If it were, you wouldn't have posted here. Shit like that doesn't just "magically" turn itself off. Drop the crackpipe and face reality. The cheapest troubleshooting advice you're gonna get is to reinstall the drivers, then the OS. After that, prepare to fork out the cash.
Besides, why do you even want to play GTA:SA? There's way better shit out there. Hell, if you're still living with your parents you're probably too damn young to play GTA:SA anyway. Go finish your homework.

You may have missed something. He stills demands a feature with AGP in its name while using a PCI card.

You still live at home. Your parents bought you a shitty computer. Say it out loud to yourself:
It's okay. I can live with this. I just need to glue some concave curved pieces of plastic to the front of it, paint the whole thing bright yellow, put an Alienware sticker on it, and hock it for a NEW computer. With a real graphics card. And something other than a shitty P4.
I'm still trying to figure out this AGP acceleration on a PCI card thing. Whatever you're on, it must be some good shit.

To the OP: Since no one has offered you an explanation, I reluctantly do so. AGP and PCI are two different bus types for graphics cards, which means that it is a pathway for data to be sent back and forth between the card and the motherboard. The AGP standard was developed because graphics cards were pushing the limits of the PCI bus. One of the features AGP permits is directly reading texture from system RAM on the motherboard, as opposed to PCI where the textures needed to be sent and stored into the graphic card's memory before they could be used. This is the "AGP Texture Acceleration" you are talking about. It is completely incompatible with your card, because you do not have a card that utilizes the AGP bus. As a sidenote, AGP itself has been replaced with the even better PCI-e, or PCI-Express. This should not be confused with the PCI that your card uses, as your PCI ports are in no way compatible with any PCI-e cards, and your PCI ports are vastly inferior for graphics.

thanks for the exlpaination, i knew most of that but i didnt actually know if AGP texture acceleration had to do with AGP graphics cards or whatever. somwhow i played the game before and now i cant, maybe something else happened. thanks for not being a faggot.

That was said by the fourth post in this thread. You're just a dumbass - what, did you think it was a bizarre coincidence?

I do not think there is any game that acually requires agp texture acc.
Meaning, something else is wrong
