PC failure

Name: Anonymous 2007-01-21 19:31

My pc had a failure this afternoon... at first something began to smell bad, but as the computer was working fine I didn't thought it was the source, then suddenly the monitor lost signal as if the pc had been turned off but the cpu was still on and the hd activity led was full on. I turned off the whole thing and opened the case. I found only a atx12v slightly burned so I believe that's the cause. What I find weird is that the pc didn't shut itself instead it continued on, so /tech/ what do you think, should I replace the motherboard too? what causes the atx12v to burn?

What exactly do you think you're talking about when you say 'ATX12V'?

Maybe you should recompile your kernel.

OP here, sorry, it is a four pin ATX cable, 2 of them work at 12V, it feeds the motherboard.

Uh... 4-pin molex for harddrives/optical drives?

No... it is for the pentium 4 auxiliary case power supply connector.

Or that. New PSU; problems persist = new mobo.

Don't change these.
