trojans

How do you know when a trojan is actually gone?
I got one a day ago and McAfee gave a message saying it was deleted. A minute later a message comes up saying it has came back and cannot be cleaned, quarantined or deleted. I do a virus scan and nothing comes up. I do another virus scan and nothing comes up. I do a virus scan with a another virus scanner and nothing shows up. So is it gone? The same thing happened to me months ago but everything has been fine and when the second message comes up it just seems like my security system is just screwing around. I just want to be positive that it is gone or have a feeling that it is.

Most AV programs suck for deleting persistent trojans and downloaders.  They will just delete the files that are detected, but won't delete the hidden downloaders that reload them all the time.

Run HijackThis and post the results to a board where people like to pick through that shit (not here).  They will identify what you've got and tell you what to do.  And typically it will take a lot of non-automated work on your part to fix.

Otherwise, >>5 or get rid of Windows.
