If you don't want/need to use Mac OS X, sure. There are plenty of reasons that Macs are worth deploying in lieu of PCs, and vice-versa. Anyone who doubts this is either naive or trolling.
In other news, you can buy knives and dildos that cost the same, but you wouldn't want to consider their functions interchangeable for the sake of comparing value.
Back on topic, I think the iPhone will serve its target audience extremely well. If you aren't the in target audience (I sure am not), why bother caring?
