My HDTV supports 1080i but at 4:3 ratio...

Is there any way to force my TV to display a widescreen image or to force my xbox360 to display 1080i at a 4:3 ratio?

Please help... thanks.

Also... it's a TruTech PLV16190 fullscreen version

(blame my parents for buying me the fullscreen and not the widescreen)

I love the way it's called 'fullscreen'  when it should really be called 'two-thirds screen'

Depends on what you're talking about.  It's not like widescreens are ideal for viewing 4:3 material or anything.

>>4 No.  You lose part of the widescreen image when viewing on an old 4:3 screen (at best on a few of them you can drastically lose resolution and view in 'letterbox'), but you can still view the whole of a 4:3 image on a widescreen TV without loss of resolution - just with the edges black.

Ridiculous.  "Pillarbox good, letterbox bad."

Take your self-righteous, ill-informed "No" and stuff it up your ass.

>>6 Aww, poor widdle fucker, you never mentioned that you were only 14.  You shouldn't really be her you know.

>>6 Just stating the facts.  If you can't handle them, that's your problem, moron.

What is it that you don't understand?

>>4 is right, and >>5 is wrong in both contradicting the general statement and for applying misinformation so broadly.

The only situation where >>5's assessment of 16:9 content on a 4:3 screen is correct is on displays with overscan.  But then, such displays can come in any aspect ratio and display technology and will typically apply that overscan to content of any dimensions.

Not enough display-tards here to know that they don't know enough, I guess.  I can only hope that you guys are here to learn something and aren't just trolling to justify your own purchases.

ANYWAY, since not everything I post has to be OMGWALLOFTEXT, try using VGA to get 1280x1024 progressive (native res of your LCD, 5:4 aspect ratio).

Should provide better results than 1080i for your application.

16:9 sucks.

Don't change these.
