Recording Sound

I'm wondering if there's something I can get that will record sound directly in my computer. I don't want to record sound from my speaker to my microphone. I just want a sound recorder that works in a similar way that screen recorders work.

Sound Forge does it

audacity is pretty good - allows recording from pretty much any source + it's free

Is there a way to record it and keep it in stereo? Every time I've tried doing it with Audacity or something similar it records to Mono.

Or is that just the way it works and there's no way around it?

try looking in the settings and change it to record stereo

I can honestly not believe I never thought of that before.
