Web hosting

Hey all.

I've been looking for some affordable personal web hosting so I can host a network of sites for student clubs in my high school.  I came across this:

http://www.hostdepartment.com/
http://www.hostgator.com/shared.shtml

These two companies are offering dozens of gigs in bandwidth and hosting space for a one-figure sum per month.  Are they trustworthy?  I'm a relative n00b in website management, so I need some opinions on this.

Thanks all!

Dreamhost's name is currently shit due to reports of shoddy and petty behaviour with their smaller clients.

Hostgator generally gets good reviews. I've never heard anything particularly bad about them.

check out http://www.globat.com
i use them for my teamtao.com(so if you use them, mention my domain name when it asks durring signup so i can get a discount on my next year). tons of storage space and bandwidth and i think the current new accounts allow for subdomains too.

dreamhost has done well by me. i run three separate domains off of one of their basic accounts with no problems.

Thanks all for suggestions.  Another on my list is 1&1.  It's pretty cheap, and it (I believe) has no banner ads or anything.  However, one of my friends says it's notoriously slow.  Can anyone  confirm that?

I've heard nothing but bad things about them. Even worse than DreamHost.

A lot of people really like A Small Orange. Lots of "web 2.0" types host their stuff with them.

Like I said, Host Gator is generally good, never heard anything bad about them.
