Windows Vista

Name: Anonymous 2006-08-22 11:34

I just downloaded and installed Windows Vista, and it runs very..strangely. It lags every two seconds, and appears to be pretty slow..perhaps its my PC?

AMD Sempron 3000+ 2.0ghz
1GB RAM
GeForce FX 5500 256MB AGP 8x

Not really sure what else would be useful..

Help me out. :(

This just came up on digg:

700 MB memory usage (in Beta 2, 1 GB before) without doing much, that could be the reason.

If you're using Beta 2, can that shit and find the latest build.

Why the hell would anyone want to switch to Vista? Especially when they are all bugged ridden betas right now.

Vista is and will be shit for a long time. Remember all the bugs in XP when it came out? even SP2 is still full of shit and falls over without much going wrong. I won't change for a long time, or at least till most of the bugs are out.

My advice: stick to WinXP SP2, unless you can use linux and don't play games.

I,ve been using Vista for a bit now...

It turned my "top of the line" workstation into a paperweight...

Untill I figured out how Vista ticked.....

there was a process that ate over 700MB of RAM constantly, anf if you killed it, it would start back up, and it's memory usage would increase steadily back to 700+ MB

I solved this by using the services snap-in in MMC [right click my compter Manage>Services and applications>Services] to disable "superfetch" "Windows Search"  and several other useless things that were always on [like Tablet PC input services] that become memory fat SVCHOST's in taskmanager

After that Vista has proved rather zippy, almost as fast as XP...

some of the programs and processes seem to not know how to manage memory at all, where normally they would "Run in background" it seems there priority is "realtime"

Isn't vista still in beta mode? Obviously it's still going to suck.

Right now it's at Release Candidate 1.  It shouldn't be sucking anymore.  But it is.

What really turns ME off about Vista is all hidden DRM that stews within it's core. Why should I buy an OS if it might suddenly tell me I can't do certain things I want to do with it? It seems to me like Microsoft is more interested sucking dicks of record companies and the like than delivering freedom to the end user. I'm going to be sticking to XP for the forseeable future, no matter how well they debug Vista, until I can witness with my own eyes all my current programs and functionality working unimpeded on a Vista machine. All you people that want to actually support Vista can enjoy your AIDS. I want Vista to fall flat on its face so Microsoft will get the picture that it failed and needs to try something different.

Don't change these.
