Automatic logout upon Startup

Holy Hell... I needed to download some WinXP updates in order to run the current version of Windows Media Player, and now every time I restart my computer, Windows immediately logs out as soon as the Desktop wallpaper appears.  Is there any way to fix this without a full restore?  Currently in Safe Mode; can't do shit.  And the kicker?

The PC is a Medion; a brand for which the actual hardware is built by fucking Microsoft!  Windows updates are incompatible with their own hardware?!

Ok nvm... I did a partial restore using my XP restore disc from Windows' safe mode rather than from Startup, and was able to fix my OS without losing all my stuff.

WHY THE FUCK DID YOU WANT THE LATEST VERSION OF AIDS MEDIA PLAYER IN THE FIRST PLACE??
