Oh wow.

Right. Well, I recently found a modem under my dresser. As strange as that seems, I had NO idea that it was there. It's a cable modem.

I also recently found out that it supports Interbutts to me. I'm currently using a 11.0 Mbps connection, and this one gives me a 100 Mbps connection. I think it's great.

However, here's the problem. I can't use it. Comcast wants me to install a bunch of stuff, and I'm fine with it. But after I put in my information, it gives me an error message.

It reads, "Device types do not match during add", and it forces me out of the installation. No questions asked.

I just wanna know what the fuck this means, and how I can fix it.

Just forget about it.  Comcast currently has a max speed of 8Mbps, and they don't like users switching modems around.

You shouldn't need to do an install process anyway.

Just register your MAC address with comcast and plug everything in and it should work.

This reminds me of a friend who switched from a 10Mbps network to a 100Mbps network and thought his internets were loading faster, even though the internet connection was slower.

Enjoy wasting a lot of effort on something that is going to increase performance 0%.

Yea I'm having the same problem. My current router works fine, but I recently bought a D-Link one which is really sweet and I get that same error. However, I know it works because if I switch the cables around to connect with the new router, it works. I still get internet access. It's only when I exit the browser(IE, Mozilla) that it stops working and prompts me to install some stuff and put my comcast account number in.

Don't change these.
