Recovery off an iPod

My dearest 4chan.  If my harddrive takes a spill (knock on wood), what is the easiest way to recover files off an iPod?  It would be the same PC the iPod was synced to.  I was considering buying an external drive for all my music, and this is bothering me a lot for some reason.  What say you guys?

Just put the files on the iPod as if it were a flash drive. It should appear in "My Computer".

Yeah that's pretty much it.  Set your iPod to disk mode, it's basicly a hard drive with some extra firmware.
