I just bought a hub to connect both my computer and the Xbox to the internet. However, Xbox is telling me that the IP address I entered is already in use by my computer. Is there any way to get around this problem or assign a different IP address to my Xbox that will work? I already tried Googling without much help and I'm about to explode.

There's your problem right there. Unless you pay your ISP for more than one IP, you need a router to share internet.
>>1 fails at internet. You need a router with NAT capabilities if you have a static IP.

So, I finally got a router and it seems my internet connection on my PC is slightly slower. I also get very few results in Soulseek and can't browse most people.

Needs more actual networking knowledge. Learn university.
The signal from your internet connection is being divided between the two devices. If you have any firewalls on your computer, check to see if the router's firmware has a built-in firewall (you could try accessing it through the 192.168.1.1 IP usually); if it has one in it, it may be conflicting with the firewall on your computer (if indeed that is how it's set up, that is). Hope this helps somewhat, OP.
