lol, well I used to it to watch a few old movies so don't worry I'm not weeaboo, thanks.
Seconded for the CCCP - I use it with media player classic, and with Quicktime alternative and Real alternative so I don't have to have that apple shit on my system.
It's never failed me yet.
codec packs are indeed a instant fail. they are bloated and contain lots of codecs you never need.
they are done by amateurs, not professionals. they have flaws and most of them cannot be perfectly uninstalled.
you don't need a codec pack. "GOOD LUCK INSTALLING THE 200 DIFERENTS CODECS OUT THERE" is just stupid. you don't need 200 codecs. what you need is to install divx, matroska, realmedia alternative and VCL mediaplayer. that is all you need, and is far more superior to any codec pack.
And vlc for a backup is indeed good. And throw in Real and Qt alternative just in case.

hOW YOU ARE GOING TO KNOW WHAT CODEC YOU NEED whitout triying every single piece of shit, every uploader try a new codec a new metod of compresion and yuo will not know what you would need ,therefore you will have to install 1 by 1 to know what you need? thats is really stupid
FFDShow + Haali Media Splitter + a good media player is basically all you need. Add Real and QuickTime alternatives to that, and you're good to go.
So far, all other codec packs I've seen are FAIL. You could also install & configure FFDShow + Haali Media Splitter seperately if you dislike codec packs.

You have everything you need.
Get the XviD codec pack and download VirtualDub - both free. Use Virtual Dub to grab the files. Use XviD video compression and whichever audio compression works best for you. It'll output as AVI, which AVI2DVD or Nero will burn just fine.
I can't remember which audio compression I use at home, but I know it's none of the MPEG based ones, since those desynced the sound when I tried them.
I don't think anyone's going to listen to someone who took two attempts to even post in the correct thread.

Most packs I've seen Fail too, except the CCCP one - the reason being that it's a minimal pack put together and tested by a group of knowlegeable techies from the world of anime encoding, who have more knowlege on the subject of video playback than pretty much anyone posting here I'd guess, plus they did it for nothing, and are constantly checking new standards to make sure the pack can cope with the newest innovations in video standards.
