Using sound/speakers to trigger switch

Sorry, but I'm not really familiar with electronics, but there's this toy I have which makes a sound through the speakers. But instead of just it making a sound, how can I get it to trigger a switch from another device? Like, instead of it making a sound whenever it does, it triggers a switch for a bunch of LED lights or a fan.
