Need Internet in basement/other room

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-31 18:11

I'm gonna try and move my computer out of the family room and down into the basement, or into my room down the hall or something.  Problem is, this distance is around 75 feet.

I've been looking at a few options here:

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd like to move my comp back there, but I'm worried about a few things.  Firstly, obviously, I want to connect to the internet, but as you probly guessed, the connection comes into the house in the living room, and my room is a ways off.  I have a router.

I've heard bad things about wireless routers/connections/setups as far as speed, cost, and most notably how reliable the connection is.  Taking this into mind, I think I want to go the solid cable route.

There's two cables there, and one seems to be a bit cheaper.  Is there any reason for this? Are some cables "faster" than others, in terms of how fast they transmit information? I also noticed one cable on the site says "500 MHZ" or something.

Can anyone shed some light on a good way I can accomplish this goal without sacrificing connection stability and speed? (Speed is an absolute must... I want it to be just as fast (or very near) since I play lots of online games.

Right now I'm on a normal router with normal cables for my connection.

I'm on a DSL connection.

The effect of attenuation on overly long UTP-RJ45 cables was solved 2 ways: Repeaters/powered hubs, and 802.11x. Pick one.
