Surge Protectors

I have a 32 inch standard TV and I need a surge protector for it. Belkin sells surge protectors that say they are suitable only for certain size TVs. Do I really need to buy their $60 surge protector? If I buy a cheaper one, what are the downsides (aside from the lower joules rating)?

One downside is that Belkin does not get all your money...

But srsly, if your TV takes more amps than is rated on protector, then you must buy the bigger one.
