Best MP3 player

Okay, so. My girlfriend wants an iPod. And I'm like "NOWAI!" but she won't listen to what I have to say about apple. I throw out other suggestions like the Sandisk Sansa e200 and the Creative Zen. Could you guys (w4ch) help with some reasons why apple sucks and what she should get? (Budget isn't quite a problem.)

iPods are pretty good until they break... I would just go with one of those tiny cheap ones that you can plug the memory sticks into.  Personally, I have used a CD player with rewritable disks for years, and I'm not going back anytime soon.

Apple is superior.

You say that apple is (made in) japan?

you can't just copy your files on it, but i guess she'd say: "but itunes is cool!!" :(
or if the battery breaks you can't change it yourself because it voids the warranty. ("oh i'd never do it myself anyway because i don't want to break it!!") :(

It's made in China. But, so is everything else in Amerikkka.
Therefore, China is superior.

iPods are, in general, high quality devices.  Are there devices of equal or sometimes greater quality offered by other companies (i.e. creative)?  Sure, and they are fine if you don't plan on getting any Fairplay DRM'd music.  But the ipod is a solid device and apple hatahs who say it is a terrible product are guilty of irrational dislike.

Yeah, I used to use an iRiver iHP-100 mp3 player, and it worked great for almost two years, until the hdd disconnected and died internally. I recently bought an iPod Video (30gb), and I must say that so far I'm happy with it- even if I *am* using stupid iTunes.

I use a Cowon IAudio. It uses flash storage. Never had any complaints. Can be used as an FM-radio and voice recorder (will record you in mp3). It supports a good range of formats: wav, mp3, aac, OGG VORBIS, others I can't remember. A good part of the reason I bought it was that it plays oggs, which is what I usually rip my cds to.

Words of fail

Zen Vision:M is easier to use and has a better screen.
iAudio X5 is good for technophiles who want a lot of features.
iPods are for jackasses with too much money, or just ignorant people that do not know any better.

Wauw! You have a friend that is a girl! If I had one I would trade iPod for sex.

no u!

Seriously, so long as iTunes remains the only way to buy music online that you can place on an iPod, and iTunes remains closed to any other company's hardware, _and_ Apple refuses to offer offer warrenties for more than two years on the devices, it is hard for me to really recommend them, I think.
Although if you do not mind just buying CDs and ripping your music, or if you do not mind an irrational DRM which locks you into hardware which Apple has referred to as 'expendable', then it wouldn't be much of an issue, I guess.  Those two things just really bug me personally, though.

I have a ZVM and I considered buying a 5g iPod.  I don't like Apple though, and I didn't want to have to have iTunes.  Also the Zen Vision : M lets me play videos with Xvid codecs that I download from torrents.  My only problem is the dongle.

People buy iPods because they are status symbols. Get her an iPod and then she'll be cool. Get one yourself and you two will the the envy of the world.

I use a Samsung YP-U1. It has 1GB storage and supports mp3, Ogg Vorbis, and wma.
I haven't had any problems with it.

Samsung mp3 players are way better. Especially the necklace series. iPod can only play mp3, can't even play Radio. Generations behind iRiver and Samsung.

I bought an iPod because every other Mp3 player I saw was inferior to my needs. I needed as much space as I could get (the 40 gig was the largest thing out at the time), I don't use funky ass file formats (all my music is in Mp3 form), and I thought the other Mp3 players out at the time were ugly as hell.

Fails for not doing any research, and also fails to realize other mp3s are superior to the wallet.

iAudio plays mp3, Ogg, wma, ac3, wav. 1gb, 2gb available. Nice equalizer. Good battery life. Also a radio, and hand-held recorder.
